Meet the COACHES
Jerry Fitzpatrick
COACH
Jerry is a seasoned ski racing coach with a need for speed and passion for teaching his personal favorite sport on the slopes. With years of experience both as a racer and a coach, Jerry brings a wealth of knowledge to help athletes reach their podium potential - but also fall in love with the fun that is skiing. Whether you're a budding talent or a seasoned racer, Jerry is dedicated to fine-tuning your skills and helping you conquer the racecourse.
Jerry raced in Far West Ski Association for 4 years during High School for the Kirkwood Ski Area Race Team. Despite living 200 miles from snow was still skiing 50-60 days per season. He continued in Far West Ski Association for my first two years of college as a M1 competitor. Jerry then moved over to compete for my college team at UC Berkeley. While at Berkeley he qualified and skied on the “A Team” and represented UCB in regional races.
Jerry got involved with High School ski racing in 2003 while my son was a Freshman at Ashland High School. He joined the Board of Directors as a parent the following year and then went on to get his coach credentials that year. He is a level 100 USSA coach with coarse setting credentials.
He has officiated at not only our league races but for OISRA at state races. He has been Chief of Race for the State competitions in 2007, 2014, 2015, and 2020.
Jerry also coaches at camps run by US Ski Team speed athlete, Laurenne Ross.
“As for my philosophy, I strive to Teach life lessons through ski racing. I certainly learned a lot about life in my racing career. The ability to trust in myself and to push myself to that uncomfortable zone and yet survive it and thrive in it. The ability to make mistakes yet learn from them. The ability to take a calculated risk and grow from it. The ability to be humble and lose in a dignified manner and to win with professionalism. I volunteer because I like hanging out with HS kids Gary and parents in a sport that I have passion for. I enjoy taking lemons and making lemonade and having a positive influence on the athletes. I enjoy building relationships of trust and respect between the coach and athlete and building upon their abilities both as a skier and more importantly a person. I enjoy building a family and community of skiers, which includes parents, and the mountain community. I enjoy competing and giving what I do my all. I love the few runs a year that I get to crash gates, and yes, my skills are rusty from the lack of training I get. I love powder days and free ski days.
Skiing is a lifelong sport that drives my passion.”
